Duo akordeoON & saxofONA

Štěpánka Šediváková - saxophone
Filip Kratochvíl - accordion

Duo saxofON & akordeON play two modern instruments in the spirit of classical music.

Following its establishment in 2016 at the Prague Conservatory, the duo, made up of the saxophonist Štěpánka Šediváková and the accordionist Filip Kratochvíl, came second at an international music competition in Prague, following which they have become of the most distinguished Czech student chamber ensembles of the present time.

The two instruments are not commonly heard in classical music, rather being connected with other genres – the saxophone being typical of jazz, the accordion regularly employed in of folk and world music. This has naturally influenced the duo’s repertoire, which, however, in addition to original pieces for saxophone and accordion, also encompasses works inspired by other styles, straddling classical music and world music, jazz and Argentine tango.
